Herbs, Allergies, and Nutrition
In these changing times we are constantly challenged spiritually, mentally, emotionally and physically. In dealing with all this “stuff” it is vitally important we have a good foundation and the proper tools at hand to effectively draw the most from these experiences. By taking more responsibility for ourselves, we are more able to help others. This begins with taking a good, long look at ourselves and how we feel—good, bad, indifferent. Have migraines, mood swings, too much weight or too little, memory fading, constipation, arthritis, “allergies,” etc.? Then making the decision to do something about it is next.
Just Getting Old?
OK, this is what I believe old to be: A condition created over the course of our lives when we give our bodies way too much of some things and way too little of others. These wonderful God-given vehicles are doing the best they can. “Allergy/addiction is one of the process/cycles we go through because of this. By using herbs, diet, and other nutritional factors I believe it to be possible to make very drastic changes in our lives. I have been dealing with allergy/addition for over twenty-five years. I believe that by working together we can make a difference. It all begins with the first step: opening our minds. God has given us everything we need. Here and now.
Any questions?

When you walk through the door of the Herb Shop, you might think you’ve gone back to the 6o’s. The earthy aroma of incense; sandalwood, frankincense, and patchouli, add to your time travel experience, and you will be certain you have gone back in time when you see the variety of tie-dyed merchandise that is available. There are tie-dyed t-shirts for adults and children, tie-dyed dresses, and even tie-dyed swimsuits, all permeated with the fragrances of the incense, infusing each item with a sensory trip back to the shop after their purchase. But, there is more to the Herb Shop than a sentimental trip back to the tie-dyed decade.
Are You on a Mission?
Behind the counter is David, the shop’s owner. David has owned the shop for five years, and previously operated a natural foods store in Arizona and another herbal store in Kansas City. After suffering from allergies for over twenty-five years with no satisfactory help from allopathic medicine, he took responsibility for his own health, and learned how he could make a difference in his life by the things he put or did not put into his body. He manages his health very well this way; he is virtually allergy free today.
The Truth Shall Make You Free.
David feels that the most valuable contribution the shop can make to his customers is the sharing of information. Sales are occasionally sacrificed on the altar of sharing information alone, giving the shop a friendly, comfortable personality. Rather than focusing on symptom relief, he has discovered that many of our health problems have their root in uneducated eating habits, and part of his mission is to teach the truth about what we are eating. “People want a quick fix, and I don’t always give them what they want, but what they need.” Very often, one of our most self-destructive habits is simply not drinking enough water.
How Much Water are you Drinking?
Sufficient water for an individual equals one half their body weight in ounces. Most drinks, other than pure water act as diuretics, some more than others. Carbonated beverages, coffee, tea and being the most potent. Even fruit juices can dehydrate. Most will cause the body to lose an equal or greater amount of water, that needs to be replaced. We also need to be aware of the effects of high sodium diet and dehydration. Most packaged food server high in sodium, which is a diuretic, and contributes to dehydration.

Accompanied by proper diet, using herbs for common ailments that do not require professional care is a desirable method of taking personal responsibility for your own health. Discover herbs in the gentle, peaceful atmosphere of David’s Herb Shop on the historic Independence square, where business takes on a decidedly human touch, focusing on each person as an individual. The Herb Shop, herbal healing, and David all share an unusual, needed, non-conformist approach to personal health management. He intends to help people to the things that will help them. As the owner and employee, the shop takes on a lot of David’s personality, and David, a lot of the shop’s. The distinction between the two even he has lost. David says,
I am the Herb Shop.
